(Not for much longer) I am a lowly blue, and so do not have the ability to select a seat without paying.

I have a J flight - LHR to JFK - next week and have just had a check to reserve a seat. I am after a window upstairs. There is only one aisle seat showing that is bookable (for a fee).

I understand that there may still be free window seats but that I would not be able to see these until OLCI. My question (which is how long is a piece of string) is: How likely is there to be a window available upstairs / is it generally accepted that unless you have status (and therefore managed to pre-book) you will never get one of these ?

If so, I may just opt for a downstairs window, but I am really keen to get upstairs.
