www.americanexpress.com/ie doesn't exist as a webiste (unlike most other european derivatives) and merely brings you to the generic icc euro/dollar cards.

It is of course quite possible that the poster was totally wrong.
I had an Amex Blue with 1% cashback, until Bank of Ireland stopping offering them. There are Tesco credit cards with points, so I don't think there is any legal obstacle.
What I don't understand is why with SEPA that it is now not simple to get a Lufthansa or Air France card, as they can take payments from any European bank account.
