Some Air Canada insider stuff I learned today
Flew next to a 763 captain today, learned a few things.
1) Air Canada does NOT mandate pilots hand fly approaches. This is contrary to what I was told by another FTer.
2) In an emergency, the captain does not automatically take control of the approach and comms from the PF (in this case, a first officer). Unless there is something going horribly wrong, (which the captain on my flight said would never happen due to training/experience), the captain would not take control of the aircraft at the first whim.
3) Checked bags now cost $, as we know. This has allowed AC to rework how many ramp crews work there...
4) An AC YYZ LHR captain works 15 days of the month. This is a lot more than I had thought anyways.
5) All charts are now on iPads. - electronic flight bags etc.
Anyways, learned a few things today, thought i'd share.
