They have improved battery life, but it still dropped about 40% during that drive.
I think it used about 8mg of data during the trip. I don't even come close to using even half my data plan, so to me it doesn't matter much.
The battery life is fine since I'm likely charging while driving. I'll give it a shot the next time and see what it does to my data. I have 3GB which is pretty good but my Tinder is a data hog
