I haven't been able to get a straight answer out of AT&T Wireless (surprise!).

I am going to be traveling to Europe, Asia, and Australia fairly frequently and I would like to avoid $1/minute roaming + $1/min intl calls. Instead of renting a phone, I thought I'd buy a cheap one in Europe and a prepaid sim card. If I buy one in Germany, will I get fleeced on roaming in France?

Can anyone offer some advice on this subject?
