Offer to "upgrade from Gold to Platinum" when already a Platinum

This is indeed a very poorly executed promotion - did anyone higher up ever vet the promotion on how it should be offered to whom?

Anyway, DH just got the reply on his request sent in 11/20 before noon PST. He is Hilton Gold (earned), SPG Gold (earned), and IHG Spire (not earned by nights but points). He is Hyatt Platinum by CC.

In any case he initially got the 14 days and now got the real reply - no news here, Hyatt now only match SPG Plat. Fair enough. That is what this promo should have been from the beginning, not the chaos that everything went, from IHG Plat to Orbitz Silver... plus numerous SPG Gold, HH Gold, Marriott Gold all got match to Hyatt Diamonds. 100% agree with those existing Hyatt Diamonds that should not be the case.

What is really irking is, the rep who handles it probably NEVER actually looked into his Gold Passport profile (his request included the GP number), and she wrote:
<<Please confirm if I shall upgrade your tier status from Gold to Platinum. I look forward to receiving your reply.>>

To that DH sarcastically replied, "Do you mean you would downgrade me first to Gold, then upgrade me back to Platinum, given I am already Hyatt Platinum? Have you actually looked at my Hyatt Profile? Guess you haven't."

In all reality Hyatt simply is too small a chain for our travel needs. Many years ago I was a Hyatt Diamond but finally gave up because I could not make it work for our natural needs. It simply did not have properties in many secondary European and Asian cities, let alone other continents.

If DH got matched, we would make an effort to try to requalify with our next year's trips it is a bit of a stretch but can be done. Now DH says he would not be bothered with such a poorly run program. So we would just use Hyatt with the Chase points when Hyatt fits. Hilton and now Marriott with its greatly increased footprint in Europe and South Africa, would get a good portion of our $ which is 100% self-funded leisure trips fwiw.

While the existing Hyatt Diamonds here worry about the DSU dilution, my gut feeling is, many who ask for the match dont really care for the DSUs but more the free breakfast benefit - that is why being a HH Gold is far better than being a SPG Gold which the only real benefit probably is the late check out. HH, especially the international properties, do take care of both their Diamonds and their Golds. I dont know how HH can maintain the Gold benefits when it is very easy to obtain the status. But the free breakfast is a benefit we put above the suite upgrade and I believe we are not the minority.
