Check out the Hotel Muse rooftop bar - it's close to your hotel and not one of the "typical" roof top bars - but the food is good, the view is good - and hopefully not too overpriced. Do yourself a favor and get a BTS Rabbit card - much easier than paying as you go on the BTS.... I will be back in BKK as well with my GF for new years running around Ratchaprasong - have a blast - I know we will!

ETA - there are a few food places I can recommend near you - the first is smooth curry in the Meridien hotel - the red curry there is amazing. If you like Italian I can also recommend a place a few stops away - it's called Bacco - great pizza's and pasta at reasonable prices... http://www.bacco-bkk.com/
