As a newly minted Hyatt Diamond, I plan to make use of my DSUs. I have redeemed one so far at a Grand Hyatt in Asia, and plan to use more, however I doubt that I will use all 8 by February 2017. I got my Starwood Platinum status this year with help from a double night/double stay promotion. I will not try requalifying for Starwood Platinum or for Hyatt Diamond after 2016 simply because I don't stay anywhere that often.

For me, the DSU confirmation-at-booking ability is the major factor that separates Hyatt Diamond from Starwood Platinum. Without using DSUs, I will likely stay at Starwood hotels and redeem some of my Starpoints for 5th night free award stays. I have some Hyatt Gold Passport points as I was a Hyatt Plat via CC, and will try to use Points & Cash plus DSU for stays at Cat 5 or Cat 6 properties in Asia and Europe. Thank You Hyatt!
