I've flown lots of redeyes over the past 30+ years. I've given up trying to do serious work when I get home, other than to take a nap, and then work between, say, 4 pm to 10-11 pm.

When I know I'm going to be on a redeye, I make sure that I have a neck pillow and eyeshades, along with Bose noise cancelling headphones. I've been lucky with Delta over the years that 90% of the domestic redeyes I've flown with the Big D has been in F on an upgrade. I sit in the window seat so I can't be disturbed; have one adult beverage during the PDB period, and usually fall asleep before the flight becomes airborne.

On my most recent overnight trip, JFK-MXP, I had been sitting with Mrs. ND76 in C+, but was consulting the Delta app on my Iphone to try to find some empty seats behind. I ended up around row 20 on the A330-300, in the G seat with two middle seats to my left empty and a solo pax in the C seat. That individual got up after takeoff to sit with a friend further back, so, incredibly, I ended up with a row of 4 to myself (the flight was probably 75% full). I was able to get about 5.5 hours of horizontal sleep, which allowed me to make it through my first day in Italy without having to go to bed until after 7 pm.
