We have just booked round trip award tickets on United from IAH to London-Heathrow. We plan to purchase tickets on British Air to Milan, our final destination, for the same day of arrival at LHR.

Our travel agent checked with UA baggage services to find out whether we would be able to check our bags through to Milan and was given a maybe, that it would be at the discretion of the agent at check-in at IAH. Was told there is an agreement between UA and BA that this can be done, but no guarantee that it will be done. If the agent says no we will need to retrieve our bags on arrival at LHR terminal 2, then go to terminal 5 to check-in again and drop off bags there.

Would appreciate advice on the best way to get from terminal 2 to terminal 5, with luggage, landside. Also, recommendation on amount of time to allow. There are multiple BA flights from LHR to Milan, so we will select our flight using information provided.
