The pilot here was exceptionally unlucky. Getting lasers to go where you want them to go is a bit of an art.

The curved banana ban thing is a myth.

Anyway, trading standards will generally use their power to remove laser pointer products above Class 2 from sale if they find them. If you see a shop selling class 3 or 4 products—tell trading standards! However they cannot interfere with foreign vendors who can now sell online.

Products at Class 2 may provide a dazzle hazard (which I agree is dangerous enough) and will appear extremely bright, but do not pose a physical risk of injury to the eye.
