Absolutely agree with this. Most of their supposedly partner airlines award are very restrictive. In many cases, I was able to use AA to book on the same partner airlines, but VA was unable to book for exactly the same routing and partner airline.

The best uses I found was
1) SFO to ORD for 15K miles one way on Premium Economy and 10K miles on Economy, when cash rate for these flights were running at $300+
2) Hotel bookings using Kaligo... I booked 1 week on Intercontinental Koh Samui for 20K miles/night in peak season. Cash rates at this hotel is $350+ per night..
