I just tell them that the fares almost everywhere are cheap if you are flexible and spend the time to look. I also tell them if you ever need help finding a fare, just ask. Then I will tell them all the ways to obtain miles without flying.

If anyone was ever fishing for my miles, they sure wouldn't get any.. I do give them away as holiday gifts as award tix etc. Other times are in family emergencies when the walk up fare is just to cost prohibitive and I'll give someone I know (and like) a ticket, otherwise, let them keep fishing.. unless they have something to trade with you.. then thats another story
