Depending on your time zone, you can probably skip the second step and call directly in SA.
I'm not entirely clear on your last step: did you phone the BA JNB office (while you were not in Africa) to make minor changes, and while on the phone, got the agent's email address, and then sent email to arrange a time for the agent to call you and get CC info?
