ljp99 is right; anyone who wants to try Priceline should consult www.biddingfortravel.com for bidding advice.

I have used Priceline four times and was able to get very good hotels at about one-third of the CHEAPEST web rate. NOT one-third OFF, but ONE-THIRD of the cheapest price. In other words, I paid about $35 to $40 per night for hotels that listed rack rates of $150-plus or "web-specials" of $120. (These were hotels near San Jose airport including the Doubletree, Summerfield Suites, Hyatt.)

Also, if a hotel fails to meet the quality rating specified by Priceline, one should definitely complain to Priceline rather than just letting it go. Refunds are possible in this situation; and it ultimately benefits Priceline to have accurate ratings.
