I concure with letiole, it all depends on the venue.

Most of the Motel 6 locations I've observed are clean, well lighted, and not worthy of concern - well, except for one along I5 in Oregon which had bullet-proof glass

If you are still concerned, you could call the Portland PD business office and ask them what they think.

catwood, there are only four Motel 6 locations in Maine, and only one in Portland proper.
