So many of you are worldly travellers. With salary cuts and the like, when I do any travel just for my own personal pleasure, I need to be more than just very careful of my personal expenses. I never know when the next pink slip will have my name on it. Anyhoo, I still want to have some fun and this leads to my question below.

I'm meeting friends this upcoming Saturday morning in Portland, ME. I'll be driving (yup the airfares are not in my league) from NYC. I'd rather not get up very early and drive but rather would prefer to drive Friday night. The best price I could find for accommodations (the friends I'm meeting are too new to ask either of them to put me up for the night) was at Motel 6.

Is it safe for a woman travelling alone? I've heard things about Motel 6 but then again, I've heard that Motel 6 is trying to improve its image.

If anyone could let me know of their experiences at Motel 6, I'd really appreciate that.
