The Air NZ BP barcodes are printed using the PDF417 format. You can download apps for Android (no doubt for iOS too) to read them.
Looking at one of my recent domestic boarding passes, the information I can see that I can figure out what the meaning of is:
- First Initial and surname
- First name and middle name (first 11 characters)
- Booking reference
- Departure Airport
- Destination airport / country
- Various alphanumeric codes - unsure of meaning
- Seat number
- Frequent flier country (airline?) (NZ)
- Frequent flier number
- Various alphanumeric codes - unsure of meaning
The flight number is not there in a form I can recognize.
