number_6 is right - the Canadian side is better, with a better view (you are facing the falls from Canada) and also casinos, and better restaurants, although there is/used to be a good Indian restaurant on the main street on the US side, half of which stands empty. My friend and I stayed on the US side a few years back, and as I recall, we just simply popped in to a guesthouse, as there are all kinds of people who rent rooms to tourists, while there aren't many regular hotels on the US side.
