Taking exotic birds to Hawaii

A friend is moving to Hawaii from Atlanta and has 3 exotic birds he wants to take with him. He has already spoken with the AG department about importing them and shots and quarantine, etc. Now he is trying to determine the best way to get them there.

Some airlines allow limited live animals (some allow them in the main cabin), but we are not sure if the birds would be comfortable with the noise and temperature of most cabins, etc. Also, a bird calling "Here kitty" all the trip might cause problems for nearby passengers :-)

I think Fed Ex and/or UPS take live animals in their cargo hold, but my friend really wants to travel with his birds (they are like children).

I suggested they take the birds to somewhere like Los Angeles and take a one way cruise to the islands and take all 3 birds in the cabin, There they can regulate the temperature and there is less chance of harm to the birds.

My question to y'all is, have any of you done this type of thing and does anyone know other possibilities we have not thought of.
