It is roaming and the charges are high. plus your phone will not always work, even though it shows full signal strength and is on a roaming network, as sprint pcs does not have roaming agreements in place with all carriers.

2 options:
1- At&t with the option of at&t canada calling for 19.99 per month. No charges for roaming in canada and it comes out of your calling plan minutes.

2- Nextel(USA) has agreements with Mike/Telus(CAnada) and their minutes work for no extra charge
