Someone beat me to it. If you have TiVo, you will need an alternate way to get the guide data. Series 2 TiVos will be able to use USB ethernet adapter and hook into a broadband connection. A series 1 TiVO can be hacked, and an ethernet card added to give you the ethernet connection.

Note, that having a DSL line usually means you have a standard, dial up line with the phone company. Typically, the people who *totally* ditch the local telco have cable modem service.
