If they ever get cable to my house (it's about .25 miles away) so I didn't need a land line for the Internet, I'd cut it in a heartbeat. I have stopped my long distance. My regular phone bills now are about 50 percent taxes and fees. I have an unlisted phone number anyway - which I have to pay for the privilege of having - so that wouldn't bother me.
As for the cells, my husband, son and I have a plan where if we call each other the minutes don't count toward our total. If there's anyone you chat with on the phone frequently that's worth looking into as well.
