I am surprised that some airlines, QF for example, still insist on payment prior to seat selection. Why is this I wonder, as I would say it is a competitive disadvantage. I have been disappointed with seat allocation in the past, so I now only fly with airlines (longhaul mostly) that allow seat selection prior to hitting the Book / Pay Now button. e.g. SQ / BA /CX / QR . Reason being that even when paying a premium fare, PE /J , some seats are better value / more comfortable than others. If flying PE for example it would be very disappointing to be put in the middle of a 2 3 2 config (777) or 2 4 2 (380), when your neighbour is nicely ensconced in a nice aisle / window seat for probably the same price.
