Depending upon the airlines involved, this is basically correct (certain airline combinations are able to adjust things like this). Even a correction of two transposed letters is a problem. Not sure why OP would even think that the correct name was not important. Could well be an expensive lesson for the OP to learn. I don't think OSI's in the PNR will help as TSA and various immigrations agencies don't have access to that information. Those are the people that count.
