Platinum status is useless then...

Say I book a flight from JFK to EZE:
• In the old system, I'd earn 10,564 miles Round trip (+100% bonus miles for being Platinum) totalling 21,128 miles.
• In the new system, if the ticket costs around $1,000 usd round trip, as a PLT, I'd earn only 8,000 miles (+100% bonus miles for being Platinum) totaling 16,000 miles.

Is this correct?
Nope. Your earning 8 FF miles per dollar (versus 5 FF miles per dollar as a general member) is your Platinum bonus.
