While on the road, I use an app that has my name and email. I will probably start denoting "REWARD IF RETURNED" as physioprof has done.

I know a friend who supervises the front desk operations at a Marriott hotel in China (I won't name the exact property). He says there is no right way to handle this because if he does contact the owner of the phone/tablet/etc, there's risk he doesn't get the owner. However, if he waits for the owner to come back and track it down himself, he may get a lecture about why he didn't make the call in the first place to say he left his phone here.
With the amount of foot traffic going through his hotel, there's no way to keep tabs on his guests. So invariably, he keeps a lost and found locked in his back office stacked with phones and tablets.
