I am a Gold member with AA. I would like to know how you get upgraded automatically to biz class from economy. Is there a program that does that automatically or does the check in staff make that decision.

I think I found the answers with actually flying out of YYz on CX to SIN. I was upgraded automatically to Biz class on both legs of the flight. It was excellent, economy class was overbooked and the bump all FF to biz class based on the status level.
