I have seen many people checking in similarly sized tv's in Asia. Normally it looked like people heading back to India were the primary shippers.

Most airlines don't pay for broken electronics. 20 years ago I checked in a 25" CRT TV in my luggage, internationally. It wasn't much fun to schlep around, but arrived intact.
