OP seems to live near MSP. Many AA flights here involve small connecting aircraft without FC cabins to reach AA hubs for connecting flights. In that sense, it seems worse than thrying to use UA at MSP. [At least UA has a lounge; AA doesn't and there's not yet a common use lounge.]
