Marriott Lifetime status is lifetime points + nights, including bonus nights from the credit card (15 per year, and +1 for every 3K spend on the card).
Lifetime Silver: 1.2M points / 250 nights
Lifetime Gold: 1.6M points / 500 nights
Lifetime Platinum: 2M points / 750 nights
As far as the quality of Marriott LT PLT to SPG LT PLT, I have no context, but from the FT threads on the merger where people claim to have both, usual indication is that SPG is better... As far as what happens to Lifetime status of SPG lifetime members in the merger, that's a crystal ball topic.
