I don't think any airlines will allow you to prereserve these seats unless you're a frequent flyer or full fare pax.

That said, my parents used to stop by the airport after they made reservations and were able to get exit-row seats assigned in person on AA. I don't think this is supposed to be allowed though. Anyway, that was before More Room Throughout Coach, now they don't bother.
