I got a $200 one a few months ago, a similar circumstance - except I showed up 5am (no notice), waited for hours, tried to board - they never bothered to tell me the plane wasn't now going to continue on to my destination (direct, one stop flight originally). I had to complain but it yielded the $200 in the same fashion as yours.
