We do like the look of the RC and the extra space (both entry level rooms quoted above) would be nice as we'll be traveling with our 10mo, but not sure if we're prepared to spend that much more yet. A ryokan is less convenient than a hotel due to traveling with our daughter, as mentioned.
Looking like we'll go with the MO Tokyo after consistently good reviews on this forum.
Definitely book the room you can live with. Upgrades aren't so forthcoming at RC Kyoto. They always seem to have high occupancy for their hotel. The standard room at Hyatt Regency is just way too small for a family. You would need the Regency Tatami suite at least. The corner deluxe wouldn't provide much of a sleeping area for your daughter.
