Alternately if you ring the Thai office and pay via credit card by reading them the number over the phone you will have to show your credit card at checkin for card verification.

As an aside I also purchased tickets in Thailand last week on the website and it used verified by visa there as well.
My NZ CCrd is also verified by visa, and because of the rigid rules here in Korea I also need to use a pin when making online purchases for flight to Thailand.

For every departure on TG from Korea (ICN) to BKK my card has been asked for at check-in, and carefully scrutinised. Same for departure from BKK. YMMV!
