I also checked LHR - HKG and there was availability there too where there hadn't been before, but I decided to stick with the new AY 350.
I called immediately and booked, with a LAN add-on to AKL. The AAgent could see the availability and ticketed the reservation. However, 2 days later, it disappeared from my list of bookings. I called up and it seems CX cancelled their leg due to "insufficient minimum connection time" in SYD. The BA site listed 1h25m as viable for CX-LA but CX didn't like it. This was VERY annoying as obviously there are tons of available flights SYD-AKL but nothing else HKG-SYD. AA are now "negotiating" with CX to open up a seat on the earlier flight down to SYD but I'm not hopeful. Could anyone hazard a guess at CX doing this? If not, what other options might I have, given the general lack of J availability currently.
I already have EU-HKG and Australia-LHR awards booked so MUST get this one to link the two!
Cheers!
Good to hear I wasn't imagining things.
As for CX->LA at SYD, it looks like MCT is 90 minutes on all international to international itineraries where LA is the receiving carrier. Otherwise it is 60 minutes.
