I might also add it's also any ramp agents responsibility to report any potential aircraft problem they might notice as well. As for pilot walk arounds I've seen good thorough checks and also literal "walk arounds" where they just waltz around because they have to. Although I'm not really bothered by the quick walk arounds either because with today's tech advanced jets there is sensor and alerts the cockpit of darn near everything
