When you open a CitiGold account Citi resets the anniversary date of the Prestige account to synchronize with the GitiGold account. They should issue a pro-rated refund of the original annual fees. They will also cancel your Priority Pass membership, and reissue it.
I don't think any of this happened to me; at least, there's no evidence of it in my account history.
