Which *G card were you using? Perhaps your FT profile is in need of updating?
Also, interesting to note that in your image the sign makes no mention of people with FF status or a business class ticket. These are a key demographic for any airport.
My take is that the yellow sign which reads "Priority Lane by Invitation Only" is for people with status or a business class ticket. The signs above also suggest the righthand lane is shared by status/business class passengers and those with pushchairs, wheelchairs, etc. This is not actually new in T1. What is new is the introduction of a dedicated barrier for people who have purchased access to the Fast Track.
I'm not defending Manchester Airport's decision but each time I went through T1 security since the change I was directed into whichever lane with fewer people in front of me after passing through the automated barrier.
