I of course know that certain promotions for example of the type that might require a Saturday night rental would end costing more for an early return if one did not keep the rental over a Sat. night. But it has been my experience that this is the very first time I have ever heard of a service charge for bringing back early a one day rental. What made this seem to me to be more of an intentional scam on the part of Hertz was that the people at the airport when I made the rental **knew full well** of my intention of probably returning it early (e.g. that night) but said not word to me then that it would increase the cost of the rental.
