AmEx denial weirdness (short history, 647 FICO, no denial letter)
So I applied for recent Green Card with AmEx...figured as a youngin' with not long credit history it would be an easy way to get my foot in the door with AmEx (avoiding skypesos).
Applied...pending...few days later checked and denied.
I'm travelling and wasn't able to call for a few days. In the meantime person checking my mail at home hasn't received anything. It's been 2 weeks now since application.
I called and first agent said yes, it was denied, she would be able to pull up letter and tell me why. It sounded like she was reading from a letter. We got as far as the score/what bureau pulled it, then the call dropped.
Called again, next agent said, it is denied, had to call the "other team" to see why...she said that she confirmed it is denied but they haven't "generated the letter" and this is why I haven't gotten one. I can expect one in 7 to 10 business days, after it's sent out a day or two from now, but this doesn't give me time to contest, as I will be trekking for some days starting in a week, no phone or internet.
This all sounds bizarre so what would you do? Continue to HUCA? I don't have a stellar score (647 according to her) but no baddies, main thing I can think of is low income (I listed $18k, am a recent grad though in medical field, put that I was working in that profession on my app) and short credit history (secured card = 20 months; store cards: 1.5 to 4 years; unsecured cards: 8 months)
