Three of us, (me, my wife and her mother) were flying from LGW to JAX via DFW on American. The reason for this routing was I had cashed in some USAirways frequent flyer miles (I guess they were in some sort of partnership with American at the time) and this was the only routing available for the three of us on our desired dates of travel. So the tickets were free to begin with. Our original return flight from LGW to DFW was cancelled. We were booked on a later flight from LGW to RDU. When we showed up for that flight, they announced that they were overbooked by three. I jumped at the opportunity. We each received a $1,000 AA travel voucher, 3 meal vouchers, and since the next flight was the next day, a huge room at the Hilton LGW, which we had stayed at the prior night, and this room was much larger and nicer, and to top it all off, when we showed up the next day for our flight to DFW, they had upgraded the three of us to business class. Remember, all of this was from originally cashing in some USAirways miles for coach tickets!! Never had anything to compare with this since.
