Not recommended is a world away from saying not allowed or forbidden, which would be misleading.
I took my OH to -4 for the first time a few weeks back, and she was delighted with the 15 minute brisk walk to C gates. It was totally empty, very quiet (other than the warnings on the walkways), and it was nice to walk a bit before sitting on a plane for 14 hours!

I do it regularly, and would happily recommend it to others
