The useless United Airlines $300 Travel Cert AKA Cockroach Letter
I received a $300 Travel Cert from UA in June as their attempt at recompense for the extensive disruption their multiple mechanical cancellations caused me (IAD to MUC via IAH and an extra day enroute with no food, hotel, or other aid offered or provided - it was a disaster).
I have now tried twice -- unsuccessfully, I might add -- to cash in this largesse from UA.
The first attempt was last month when I was purchasing paid tickets in F for the Mrs. and I from IAD to OGG. The second was today, while I was planning a trip to Doha in March.
In each case, I followed the instructions provided -- or would have -- if I didn;t get this note on the payment page: "Based on your current selections, United payment types are not available."
Next to the statement is the little "i" in a circle -- the icon for "Information" but it's greyed out, which means they have no intent to provide me any further information about why they are denying me the use of this certificate.
So lesson learned. When UA offers this $300 Cockroach Letter, tell them to jam it where the sun doesn't shine.
It is a completely useless and meaningless attempt by them to "make up" for the inconvenience they caused you by flying their airline. They really could care less. In fact, I bet if they thought they could just tell people to "Piss Off!" instead of going through the charade of providing these certificates, they would.
**End Rant**
