In fact, I was even upgraded nicely to a brand new Audi A4, which we drove a few thousand km's touring southern Spain like you're thinking of doing. Wouldn't bat an eye at doing that again.
Awesome, going via a corporate rate most likely as ours includes insurances of sorts. I need to look into my preferred account and see what's going on with it with regards to status, haven't invested the time to see how it works with Avis beyond select & go.
A3 or A4 would be fantastic, especially a manual--don't want something too big to maneuver in the smaller towns.
