Also, not sure why you needed UG stickers if your friend was EXP, "friend's (EXP) account".
Mostly likely, I'm misunderstanding everything.
In the end, we should know the rule is, the stickers come out of the EXP account. Anything else is YMMV.

At that time, I was Plt and my friend was EXP. I was told by AA that the 500-mile upgrades would come out of EXP's account but the system pulled from mine. I do know when I first started flying they would pull them highest status on PNR, then they switched to pulling from the traveler's account if any otherwise from the highest traveler's. Sounds like the pendulum may have swung back to highest.
