I think whether or not airlines offer lounge access to domestic F pax is a function of (1) capacity and (2) profit. Many of CO's and NW's clubs are at capacity, especially in hub airports. If there is a large number of F pax who don't have lounge access via paid membership, elite status, or international J/F connection, admitting them might overflow the lounges. Of course their presence will crowd-out paying lounge members who would rather hang out for free in the airport than drop a few hundred to hang out in a jam-packed room with crappy food. Obviously, airlines would rather fill lounges with people who pay extra to be there.

Well, what about INTERNATIONAL FULL FARE FIRST CLASS passengers who fly domestic segments on an American airline within the US to connect to a First Class International flight ON ANOTHER AIRLINE?

It would really pisses me off to to have to paid $10,000 for an International Full Fare First Class ticket on Cathay Pacific DFW-LAX-HKG vv. and have to put up with not being allowed into the Admirals Club on my American Airlines segment from DFW-LAX in domestic F just because the international flight I am connecting to is on another airline.

When flying First Class on Cathay Pacific, even short hops like Hong Kong to Taipei, I still get access to "The Wing", CX's lounge in Hong Kong for no additional charge!! Same for a short BA flight from London to Amsterdam where I can use the Executive Club lounge when flying Business class.

In conclusion: I am fed up with the American system!!!
