Put another way: I've seldom found 2 award tickets at low redemption rates at 6 months or less before departure. I've always found 2 tickets at low rates at T-331 days.
That was true until Dec 31, 2014. As of Jan 1, 2015 availability is far, far worse (it's been greatly reduced) and there are no longer the at least 1 O and 1 X (normal level) award seats available at 331 days out. It may be so the case sometimes (very rarely, from my experience), but it possibly also depends on the specific flights. But, it is much less so the rule now as of 2015 than it was until the end of 2014 that at 331 days out you will get the best availability.
