The layout of Rio, with the favelas (poor communities) on the hills directly behind the beachfront residential neighborhoods of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon, means that anyone frequenting those neighborhoods in any capacity needs to come to terms with their working class neighbors (the same ones probably making beds and serving food in the hotels) and their families, who do indeed visit the beach.
The Fasano has its own well-staffed area of the beach to serve its guests.
However, part of the enjoyment of Rio IMO is exploring the varying 'personalities' of each of the numbered Postos (lifeguard stations) along the beach and the distinct crowd that populates each one.
