Iceland Air economy comfort

Hi

I am looking at a oneway Iceland Air economy comfort MCO to CDG via KEF in May. I understand the fare is fully refundable. I just want to know in practice whether it's easy to obtain the refund or if the airline makes it difficult. I would pay using a debit card tied to a US bank account.

Thing is, I'm an Indian student in the US and need to get a ticket for a Schengen visa application. If I do take the trip on the same dates, I would not want to actually take this flight- Iceland Air economy comfort is nearly $1000 oneway whereas I can get a nonrefundable Norwegian AIr ticket for about $300. So once the visa application is over, I will need to cancel the ticket- should I keep anything in mind?

If I book, it would be now, and I would apply for the visa in March.

Thanks
